A Place in the Sun
For our first time “time on the field this year”, Doreen and I booked for two weeks at the Club’s Chichester Site in Southbourne, Hampshire. It is small, clean and well-run by a team of Managers and two Assistants who were very pleasant and helpful. Outside the entrance buses run every 15 minutes to Brighton via Chichester in one direction and Portsmouth the other way. Other amenities are the Chichester Caravans. The Travellers Joy Pub, Surgery, Chemist and small Co-op with Post Office within walking distance.
At first, for one reason or another we did not visit the places we intended to so extended the booking for a third week during which we went to Bognor, Chichester, Portsmouth and Ford Market. This is held on a former Airfield and is large, taking sometime to visit all the stalls and well worth a visit. Towards the end of the week I injured my right leg and could not even drive. We finished the holiday with the Managers emptying waste water, cassette, also taking down our awning. I arranged for the AA to transport the Jeep, Caravan and us back home The Caravan was dropped off where it is stored in Biggleswade (just ahead of the local Carnival Procession) then took us home in Baldock. An excellent Service.
Maybe we will plan a return visit to complete what we originally set-out to do. The Site was recommended to us and the description in “Your place in the Sun” made it a good bet. Unfortunately, not being able to drive or walk properly meant I could not steward Radwell so thank you Olive for taking our place. Also Loves Lane is out of the question and if I am not better Olive said she will steward Turnpike Farm at the end of July. Usually it is me doing for others– the reverse I don't like. I will be glad when I can discard the crutch and walking stick– it really makes me look like an old codger.
STAN (the man) Woodside Farm, Sandy
Derrick and I stewarded at Sandy. We had 5 units out. The highlight (for us) was England playing on Saturday. Linda and Dave kindly put up their awning and 15 of us crowded around their television. We had rattles and whistles and banners. It did not help the end result but it was a fun evening.
We are back again at Sandy in August, where we are running a THS from 19th - 31st August. Please come and join us for as few or many days as you can. Attractions nearby include the RSPB centre and Shuttleworth museum.

CCJ
What are the Juniors and what do the Junior Leader’s do. The Juniors are the 8-11 year olds who want to learn some basics about camping until they are old enough to join the CCY.
They camp in tents which are in a group in the adult area. seperate to the CCY, going back to their parents or guardian for meals. The Junior Leaders teach them very basic first aid, such as putting cold water onto burns and basic camping skills. This is a tiny part of the Juniors, as most of the time should be fun or free time. If there is anyone interested in becoming a leader or would like to know more about it please contact me .

Hope everyone is enjoying the camping season so far. We have all been busy and I certainly cannot wait till I go away next week. We are all off to Sidmouth for a couple of weeks. I enjoyed been out at Loves Lane and enjoyed playing Boggle with Christine, Barbara and Ellen. Ellen got a lot more than 3 letter words than I did I could only manage one or 2 4 letter ones at the most, but we did have a laugh. There are no Secretary Scribblings this month but I am sure Liz will have lots to say next month.
Dates to remember
AUGUST 19– 31 THS SANDY SEPT 3-5th DAFOL please remember to decorate vans tents etc in the theme of 1940’s. SEPT 10-12 SLOE MEET. Loves Lane.
OCTOBER 8th-10th KELVEDON HATCH CLUB SITE. IF ANYONE CAN STEWARD THIS PLEASE CONTACT HELEN CORDWEL ASAP.
There is a lot more going on this year and I hope to see you all out soon
