Hawaiian Weekend 4-6th July 2008
Herts and North London DA recently joined together for a Hawaiian Beach Party weekend. It was held at Balls Park, the Hertford Club site.
Luckily the weather was just about on our side and the weekend kicked off on Friday evening with a social and a few games. A highlight of the evening was the bucket game, won by Dorn Mileson.
Saturday was forecast to be wet, but the sun joined us in force and the morning’s activities began with a selection of games for young and old. These included a Hula Hoop contest, Limbo contest, parachute games and finally a girls verses boys volleyball match.
There was a short interlude for lunchtime refreshments before we began the afternoon’s water fun. It should have started at 2pm, but many older ‘children’ couldn’t wait and the pistols were drawn by 1.45pm!! After this many soggy campers made their way to the main reception for a round of ice-creams.
Once everyone had dried off it was time for the evening social with a communal barbeque and Tiki bar serving up homemade Sangria. With most campers joining their tables together and those who could bringing their barbecues across too, the true spirit of DA camping shone through, with many barbecues being shared to cook the food.
Following the Barbeque there was a parade of outfits. (We should have brought shares in Matalan!) There were some great outfits worn but the winners of the coveted Pineapples were Val Jackson and Mavis Homer for the Adults and Hannah for the Children.
The weekend came to an end with coffee morning on Sunday, and unfortunately the weather followed suit.
There were plenty of requests of “let’s do it again”.
